E-Publishing Package Providers: All the Information Comments (0)

House Of Publishing& Online Web Resources

To produce digital publications is a great deal of effort, therefore you wouldn’t want to destroy your work by picking the wrong digital publishing software package. As a matter of fact, picking a software supplier is the most important part of producing an online publication. It’s not a trite question of merely picking some neat format for your creation - on the contrary, this is a crucial decision as it may well mean success or failure for your venture. Simplicity of use is the main part you want in your chosen software. Of course, no matter how excellent the software is, it’s no good if you yourself can’t do anything with it! The ebrochure you’re making should be important enough to you for you to test out several providers. With hacking and spamming being an online issue, security should be your second main priority before creating an online publication. Do you know what measures are in place securing your magazine? What about the content? Can the readers just copy and paste the magazine content or does the flash publishing software supplier have protection preventing this? Is the content secured by the software supplier from copying and pasting by readers?

You’ll also want to think about interactive collateral management to market your flash magazine. Whatever your marketing plan may look like, you will should think about these things, maybe not for every single issue but instead for the business in its entirety. What use are you making of networking media? What consideration has been made of handling advertising? Thinking about search engines will also be essential as you consider marketing your ezine. Will you mix free content and paid? Try to consider your subscription options when you’ve made up your ebrochure. Will the content be commercialized or is this only a not-for-profit venture? Will you be providing summaries to sell the online publication? What’s the availability of your ebrochure? If it’ll be private you can look into several hosting options or is it public? You should probably host directly. What’ll you do about back-isues?

Prior to encountering an emergency you should ponder some things, too. How’s the technical support? What quality is their FAQ page? Do they have a how-to guide? Check for response times. Try calling their emergency phone number to test it out. Technical support may be your last consideration at this point in time but it should be a decisive factor in your choice. You certainly don’t want to discover the hard way that they’re actually attempting to cut corners to your detriment here… Your decision now will be what will decide how well your publication does - consider carefully as you decide on your host. Search Bing etc. to look up the term “Zmags” for further useful hints.

Article Writing - 10 Ways to Get Your Get into the Writing Mood Comments (0)

House Of Publishing

Article writing is not as hard as it can seem sometimes - you do need to be organized and disciplined though. Here’s our to do list to help you.

1. Set yourself a realistic deadline to finish the product. Consider writing more than one article at once and setting a set day each week or month dedicated to article writing.

2. Pick a subject for your article that you are not only proficient in, but also enjoy. It helps when it all gets too much for you, to at least enjoy what you are writing about. It makes it easier and faster to write the article as well.

3. Make sure that you thoroughly research your subject and market and have a clear idea of what you want to write about. Visit forums, undertake search engine searches and get an idea of what questions people are asking and what they are looking for. Jot down all your ideas in a dedicated notebook.

4. Always have a pen and pad handy - that way you can jot down things that come to you before you forget them. Ideas often come when you are relaxing or just about to fall asleep. Don’t forget to collect all your notes together.

5. Ensure that you have all your research and notes to hand and in one place. Keep a special folder on your desk or PC to hold all your research and work to date.

7. Make sure that you have a defined working place in your home or office that is clutter and interruption free. If you have to think hard and follow a long train of thought - it is best done without interruption.

6. Sit down, relax and map out your thoughts and ideas in order to get some structure into your thoughts. Start with a list of ideas and build them up to a structured document. Try putting down bullet points and then expanding your ideas from these. Consider writing more than one article if your notes make this appropriate. Most articles are between 350 - 1,000 words.

8. Ensure that you have all the software that you need to produce your article. Also identify about 3 - 5 major article directories to submit your article to.

9. If it all gets too difficult or confusing - then stop and go and have a break or start again next day.

10. Don’t forget to go back and check and refine your writing as you progress. Check your progress and work so far with someone that you trust.

Yes, preventing intrusions from the web, keeping files safe and ensuring the secure transactions of online banking can be done using free applications. Meet an “Accidental” Travel Writer Comments (0)

Fun, fishing and food are three of my most special interests - you can probably tell from the restaurant reviews I’ve written that I love good food. If meals in a place are over-priced or just plain bad you’ll never hear about that place from me unless it’s touted in the guidebooks in which case I’ll warn you away. Meals don’t necessarily have to be expensive to be good but you do deserve good service, so I watch that too. Trout and Catfishing mean I’m outdoors a lot - outdoor activities are a natural, healthy way to relieve stress. Fun includes fine arts, sports and social activities so I try to cover a reasonably wide variety of pastimes to broaden my options.

Writing isn’t exactly a new venue for me either. During the past three years alone I’ve published more than 250 articles on various aspects of Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Brazil and Mexico. If you read South American Explorer magazine, Transitions Abroad magazine, Brazzil Magazine or Escape From America E-Zine, you’ve probably chanced on some of my articles.

Principally though, I teach EFL, English as a Foreign Language at the university level and write ELT, English Language Teaching, articles too. My preferred working area is Mexico City for the high salaries, expansive number of jobs, cultural and culinary aspects and opportunities for interesting day and weekend excursions. From the D.F., you can hike in the heights, let the Pacific lap at your legs, tangle with a trout, hot air balloon, hang glide, rummage through thousand-year-old ruins, sample gourmet delights from a dozen countries, photograph nudes, sing salsa, check out chunky chocolates and even e-mail your Mom on the cheap, among countless other things, all on a regular weekend. Not only that, but you get paid a better-than-average salary-for-a-short-work-week to be there.

My name is Larry M. Lynch. Although originally I’m from the Pennsylvania Dutch region of Pennsylvania, I grew up in Baltimore, one hour to the south of my hometown York, and moved to Colombia in 1995 continuing to work as an English teacher. With two breaks during the academic year, each one nearly two months long, I don’t have sufficient time to run around digging up the least and the latest to pass on to all of you, my unseen friends. But then, do we ever? We just do the best and most we can.

Yep, I’m in the right place alright, doing the right thing. What about you?

Helping Clients Overcome “Their” Writer’s Block! Comments (0)

House Of Publishing

If you write for a living, that is, if you write articles for clients you often have heard about writer’s block. Personally, I think the topic is overdone and simply something that comes about when the author is too tired, distracted, or simply not interested in the topic at hand [oh, yes…this does happen!] On the other hand, do your clients sometimes suffer from writer’s block? Okay, before you throw your hands up wondering how could this be, just think about it: do your clients always know what they want you to write? Am I making myself clear? If so, read on…if not, please read this paragraph again!

As writers, we can assume that when a potential client approaches us to write for them, that they always know which topics they want you to cover. Without sounding cheeky, only if this was always so! To put it mildly, you may have a client who wants you to write “X” amount of articles, which he or she will place on their own web site in hopes of building up SEO [search engine optimization, that is], and your part of the equation is to write interesting and compelling copy that will drive traffic to their site.

Well, this only works out if your client knows exactly which topics/subjects are to be covered, keywords used, and the length of each article. No, your client isn’t going to write the article, but they will certainly lay its foundation. No web content article can possibly get going without your knowing certain essentials including the topic and which keywords are to be utilized. Make certain that these building blocks are included with your proposal, otherwise you risk going down one path while your client wanted you to go down another.

Unless you have plenty of time to constantly rewrite every article I recommend that you uncover precisely what the client wants from you.

When I sense that a client isn’t sure which direction they want me to proceed, I then start asking several questions, including:

Do you have a topic you want covered? If so, what is it and do you want me to come up with the article title or is this something that you would like to do? Knowing this information will help you create the introductory paragraph and your topic sentence.

Next questions: which keywords do you want me to use? I try to limit my clients to a small group of 2-4 words per article. Additional keywords mean additional articles…why confuse your readers? Why kill SEO? As I write this article for you do you have 3-4 points you want me to make? All of this information will comprise the article’s body.

Finally, what sort of “call to action” are you desiring? Do you want readers to buy a product? Read something else? Call their representative? I leave the anchor links up to the client, but I try to bring the article exactly to the point where the client wants it to be.

If you have gotten satisfactory answers to each of your questions, you have helped your client get over their own case of writer’s block. Yes, to a certain point every client has already visualized what they want written [they bring you on because they don’t know how to craft the right words or are simply too busy to write for themselves]. If they haven’t, you must help them answer the previous questions in order for you to write effectively.

If you don’t take the time to make certain that your client is sure of what he or she wants, you will have wasted time and delayed the opportunity to go to the next project.

I don’t know about you, but time is of the essence and we writers cannot afford to waste any of it. Nail down exactly what your client wants before tackling any project to save yourself time and to preserve your sanity!
