What was once seen only as a useful service for businessmen on the go, mobile broadband has emerged as a modern day necessity for people from all walks of life. This is proven by the data recently released by market research company Gfk, showing sales up from 27,000 in October 2008 to 58,000 in January 2009, despite Britain reeling under the economic recession.

Mobile Today also predicted this week that the use of mobile broadband would only continue to grow and the sales figure have already crossed the 20,000 per week mark. The service has acquired centre stage once again, thanks to the publication of the Digital Britain report, which positioned mobile broadband as one of the key elements in the development of the UK’s communications sector.

The surge in popularity of the service can be partly attributed to the launch of gadgets like the iPhone, which raised consumer expectations and also the fact that mobile broadband plugs the gap where fixed-line broadband has failed in some parts of the country.

To bolster this growth, mobile broadband providers are leaving no stone unturned in presenting attractive laptop for free deals to entice consumers, tinkering with prices, throwing in freebies and cooking up schemes like mobile broadband with free laptop, thus leading to impressive sales numbers.
