When playing the hundreds and hundreds of hands each day that online poker allows you to, you begin to notice lots of patterns playing poker and other casino games.
One such pattern is that a very large number of players love to play ace-rag. It doesn’t even matter if their suited, you will always see some person make a big raise that turn out to be A-4 or some such silliness, and end up losing to a better kicker. Now of course, ace-rag isn’t always bad, sometimes if you can get in a flop with it for the price of the big blind you can play it for value.
You can play those hands with profit as long as you are aware of the dangers and have the discipline to muck when the signs are that you are beat. The dangers or Ace rag are of course that you will flop an Ace and then pay off a better kicker. With Ace rag, I’m looking to either win a small pot by just betting into an Ace high flop or I’m looking for a trapping hand where I might catch two pair against someone slow playing a big Ace.
Either way you play it, it’s a starting poker hand that can be very dangerous, and certainly not one you should be raising with constantly.
