Book Vacations With Reliable Travel Agents Comments (0)

Uncategorized

Did you know that booking your holiday independently, without using a travel agent, means that your money is at risk? There is no legal requirement for airlines (especially the no-frills, low-cost variety) and hotels to supply you with security in the event of insolvency. However, book your holiday through an ATOL travel agent, such as the “My Vacations Group of Travel Companies” and your money and peace of mind are secure. Reliable travel agents such as My Vacations have paid out vast amounts of insurance to their regulatory body, the Civil Aviation Authority, in order to be permitted to sell package and other holidays. In short, if it doesn’t have an ATOL, don’t book it at all!

Contrary to popular opinion, you don’t always get the cheapest flights by waiting until the last minute for possible cancellations. In fact, more often than not, the air fare increases as seat availability decreases. Book well in advance as many airlines offer a limited number of significantly reduced fares. At present, My Vacations are taking bookings up to 31st March 2007. Also, always try and be flexible with your departure point as regional airports usually offer much cheaper flights as well as less queues and shorter check-in times.

Frequent travellers know that booking their flights and accommodation at the same time through a travel agent saves them a lot of money as booking a flight independently and then sourcing a hotel room separately means you often end up paying ‘rack’ rates (published full-priced flight/room rates) instead of the heavily discounted rates offered by travel agents. My Vacations have negotiated very low rates at many top branded hotel chains and airlines around the world due to their bulk buying power and these benefits are, in turn, offered to the customer. Remember, these discounted rates are only available when booking your holiday through a travel agent.

Book your flights, city or beach breaks through http://www.cityvacations.co.uk/ and receive an online booking discount of £5.00 per person! Also, watch out for regularly discounted holiday offers, free night offers at top hotels around the world and special ‘2 for 1′ Companion fares in Business & First Class with reputable airlines such as Qatar Airways & Etihad Airways.

New York Dream Vacation Comments (0)

Uncategorized

Being a native New Yorker, actually I live a few miles away but have been there enough, I feel more than qualified to give you the perfect New York vacation. I am planning this for a period of one week. Hit all these spots and you’ll pretty much get the cream of the crop of what New York has to offer. And don’t let anyone tell you different. New York IS the greatest city in the world.

I recommend starting with the site actually surrounding the city. If you’ve never been on the New York ferry then you have to take the ferry ride and see the Statue Of Liberty. If you’ve only seen it in photos then you truly have no idea how magnificent it really is. As you approach it is one of the most breathtaking sites in existence. I still remember my first ferry ride at age 7 and seeing the lovely lady for the first time. It is an experience I will never forget.

And there is Ellis Island. From 1892 to 1924 12 million immigrants entered New York through Ellis Island. You can also see Ellis Island from the same ferry ride.

Working your way into the mainland, no vacation is complete without seeing the Empire State Building, which is now the tallest building in New York with the tragic destruction of the World Trade Center. The building was completed in 1931 and since that time over 110 million people have made their way to the top. Last year’s total was over 3.5 million people alone. From the top of the building you can see the entire city of New York and beyond. It is truly a magnificent view.

From this point you can just about turn in any direction and run into a historical landmark. There are so many places to go in Manhattan that you can’t really see them all, even in a week. So continuing on from The Empire State Building I would next go to see The United Nations. The UN was established in 1945 and has been attempting to keep world peace ever since. Not an easy job. I was there once. I will never forget it.

No trip to New York would be complete without a trip to Broadway and 7th avenue where you can literally see theaters lined up side by side. Anyone who can’t find entertainment on Broadway is simply blind or not looking. I suggest you check your pulse.

While on the subject of entertainment you’d be crazy not to visit Radio City Music Hall, which was built in 1932, if for no other reason than to see the Rockettes. Let me tell you, they DO have the greatest legs on this planet. If I could afford it I’d see them every night.

For the best in dining and shopping you better take a trip down to Chinatown, which is inhabited by 150,000 Chinese people in just 2 square miles. This is the largest Chinese population in the Western hemisphere.

The heart of the financial district is the New York Stock Exchange. Seeing them ring the opening bell on TV is nothing like watching them do it in person. The entire world literally watches the New York Stock Exchange to know how the world of finance is doing. Talk about power.

Then of course is Rockefeller Center with it’s legendary Christmas tree. Obviously you want to go there around Christmas and New Years. There is also great shopping in Rockefeller Center. This place alone can be a whole tour.

Finally the last must see place is the World Trade Center Memorial. Talk about getting all choked up. This is one monument I wish was never made necessary. What happened there was simply unspeakable but the work that went into honoring the memory of those who died that day is truly inspiring.

After that, if you have time, go and take the tour through NBC studios to see how shows are made. Then go to Lincoln Center and watch an opera. Take a walk through Central Park, just not at night. And if you want the best deli in the world you MUST go to Deli City in mid town Manhattan.

Honestly, there is way too much in New York to see to list here. My suggestion is if after seeing all of the above you have some time left, go find a tour agency. They’ll let you know if there is anything you missed that you should see.

Yes, New York truly IS the greatest city in the world.

Christmas Markets in Germany Comments (0)

Uncategorized

Ahhhh, Gluhwein ! Hot and spicy mulled wine, tastes so good with my bratwurst here in the marketplace of Mainz, Germany. Oh, the shopping! Christmas pyramid carousels (Weihnachtspyramids), incense burners called ’smoking men’ (Raeuchermaennchen), nutcrackers and glass ornaments. Not my favorite, but certainly a holiday treat, Gingerbread (lebkuchen). I’ll have more Gluhwein, bitte!

It’s Christmas time on the Rhine River. The holiday season is celebrated in marketplaces throughout Europe (Weihnactsmarkt). None better than in Germany. Having had the opportunity to live in Germany, I was introduced to this wonderful tradition of Christmas markets. We would bundle up our children (the oldest who was only 6 at the time) and visit market after market, each one more wonderful than the last. The scents of baked apples, pretzels and gingerbread, coupled with the sounds of seasonal music and the lights - added to the folklore of the marketplaces. For hundreds of years this tradition has been held in cities and towns throughout Europe. Beginning the third week in November and ending on Christmas Eve, various town squares turn on the lights and the sounds of the holiday.

Heidleberg offers not only a wonderful town setting but the added ambiance of the castle perched high on the hill overlooking the festivities. If you stop to visit, take the English guided tour of the castle - the guides are very knowledgeable on the history of past Kings. Rudesheim, on the Rhine River, wonderful to visit all year long comes alive with the season - shopping here is absolutely a must! We have wooden plaques, with wood burned picture landscapes, purchased years ago adorning our walls. Cologne, the home of the famous Gothic cathedral, reminds us of the religious significance of our holiday. Stand outside the cathedral in its beautiful square and look up to admire the spirals that reach toward the heavens. Nuremberg offers one of the biggest Weihnachtsmarkts I can recall. A giant Pyramid in the center of its marketplace, this popular attraction, with life size figurines, represents the story of the season.

If you go, remember that it is cold outside during this time of year. The Gluhwien helps, but so do gloves, hats and scarves! While we drove from market to market, living there we could visit one market a week. If you go during a vacation, I recommend a Rhine River cruise or similar packaged tour. Parking in the towns is not easy. They were not created with cars and buses in mind. Rivers were the primary mode of transportation. Even today boats dock right along the edge of the market. While the market places are open until Christmas Eve, it is important to note that they (like all shops in Germany) close early on the twenty-fourth.

As many times as I’ve been able to return to Germany - mostly in warmer weather - I would not have given up the opportunity to experience the Christmas markets. So bathed in tradition they are part of the heritage of a wonderful Europe. The markets are visited by tourists like myself but also by the local citizens of these magnificent old towns.

Your Travel Destination Shall Be Cebu, Philippines Comments (0)

Uncategorized

That may be a presumptuous statement to make but after reading this article thoroughly, there’s a good chance that you’d agree to make that statement as well. But first, let’s get down to the basics.

Cebu, as mentioned, is in the Philippines. Now, when you mention the Philippines, it’s either Manila or Boracay — those are the first places to come to your mind. But we assure you that Cebu is as good as both those places. Better yet, there’s no need to pass through other cities in the Philippines just to get to Cebu. As one of the major ports of the country, Cebu is even directly accessible from other countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong, China.

Since Cebu is highly urbanized, tourists have no need to worry about where to purchase toiletries and other necessities because there are department stores and 24-hour convenience stores strategically located all over the city.

But enough about that and let’s get directly to the good stuff.

The Olango Wildlife Sanctuary should always figure prominently in a tourist’s travel plan to Cebu, Philippines. In this sanctuary, tourists would able to catch a glimpse of different species of migrating birds coming from places as far as China and Siberia. Based on studies made of this natural phenomenon, these birds choose Olango as a wintering ground and a way to increase their fat reserves before they resume flight.

Cebu’s Fort San Pedro is the oldest tri-bastion fort in the Philippines. Built in 1565, its 8-foot thick walls and 30-foot tall tower bore witness to several wars, not the least would be World War II, in which it served as barracks for American soldiers.

Casa Gorordo Museum is also one of the well-loved destinations of tourists once they arrive in Cebu. Taking a tour of this well-kept museum is like stepping into another time and era, thanks to the lovely antique furniture on display and the conservation of residential features from the old days such as the magnificent courtyard.

And speaking of Gorordo, make sure that you visit 415 Gorordo Avenue in Lahug, Cebu City because that is the address of the Sala Piano Museum. In this museum, you’d be able to a see a collection of about hundreds of pianos of different shapes and sizes.

Lastly, there’s the Kawasan Falls in Matutinao, Badian. The sight of this majestic waterfall would no doubt make you think how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful world.

How To Drive in France and Not Get Lost Comments (0)

Uncategorized

“Come over to our house for dinner” said Tom, our new-found
English friend. “It’s easy from your hotel”. Thus began our
first odyssey of driving on French roads. We were visiting my
company facility in Toulouse to make a decision about moving
there for two years. Needless to say, we got lost that night.
Very lost. After realizing that I missed a turn off the rocade,
a freeway-like road in the city, I simply took the next exit to
turn around and go back, as I would do at home. To my surprise,
the exit road ran off in some unknown direction, and there was
no way to turn back! Later we did manage to find the rocade
again, but the exit we needed wasn’t accessible from that
direction. The overhead signs said we were heading toward
Bordeaux. I didn’t know where I was, but a two hour drive to
Bordeaux that night was not an option. We seized upon signs for
“Centre Ville” which we knew meant downtown. After a long
struggle to find a pay phone and figure out which coins were
needed, we did manage to call Tom to pick us up. I’d like to say
that was the last time we got lost on the roads of France, but
that is hardly the case. Here are a few hard-learned tips to
minimize wrong turns there, or anywhere in Europe:

It’s the Direction, Not the Street Name that Counts In
the U.S. one navigates by turning at certain streets. In France
the streets often are not marked. There may be an old sign on
the corner of a building, but there are few street signs as we
know them. What one does see are signs with names of towns.
These signs are remarkably accurate. If you want to go to a town
that is marked, just follow the signs. You won’t have to worry
about missing a turn from D-11 to D-603, for example, the signs
do all the work. If suddenly you see signs that do not indicate
your destination, have no fear. Just go straight and your
destination will be indicated farther on. A problem arises when
your destination is not mentioned on the posted signs. It might
be before or after the town that is indicated, so you need to
know which direction to follow. You must find this out before
departing, either by asking someone which town to go toward, or
by getting internet directions (more on that later on).

Finding the Downtown and Train Station In any French city
or town, it is remarkably easy to find the train station (la
gare, in French). One simply follows signs to “Centre Ville”,
and sooner or later you’ll see signs indicating “gare SNCF”.
(SNCF is the nationalized company that runs the trains in
France.) If you need to go anywhere in the downtown area,
following the “Centre Ville” signs will get you nearby.

Beware of Wrong Turns on Autoroutes Autoroutes are the
French equivalent of Interstate highways in the U.S., or the
motorway in Britain. If you miss a turn here you’ve just lost
time and money. Almost all the French autoroutes are toll roads,
and the tolls are pricey. Since all access is through toll
booths which are expensive to build and operate, there are not
that many exits and entrances. So if you miss a turn, the next
exit could easily be another 20 miles down the road. You’ll have
to pay the toll there, then backtrack the 20 miles you just
needlessly drove. Of course your next toll will also reflect the
extra miles. Make sure you have solid directions before
venturing off on French autoroutes. When several of these
intersect, watch the signs carefully and get in the proper
lanes, and you will stay on the right road.

Internet Driving Directions An excellent internet map
service is www.mappy.com. This site is in 7 languages and
provides directions anywhere in Europe. In addition to maps and
directions from towns or specific addresses, trip time and
distance, Mappy gives more information. You will be told how
much tolls, if any, will cost, and you’ll also find out how much
fuel will be used and how much that will cost. The driving
directions include the unique feature of showing what the
autoroute signs will look like, so it is easy to stay on the
right road.

Getting lost while driving in a foreign country is probably to
be expected. If you follow the tips mentioned above, however,
you will avoid unnecessary aggravation and lost time and money.
But if you do wander off in the wrong direction, be sure to have
along that French phrase book you bought before leaving
home!

Buy Cheap Public Liability Insurance on the Internet Comments (0)

The Insurance Way

With the compensation lifestyle increasing throughout the planet, possessing public liability cover is becoming ever more & more essential. If you do not have public liability insurance incorporated into your building cover, then now is perhaps the time to look at buying enhanced cover. Here is some information about why you require cover, and what to look out for.

What is public liability cover: Professional Indemnity insurance is an insurance policy that protects you from claims that other people might make against you in the event of an accident. If someone damages their belongings or harms themselves in or around your property or company then the public liability insurance will protect you for any fees that might well arise. Cover generally ranges from ?250,000 up to ?1 million. Find cheap business insurance online at www.InsuredRisks.co.uk.

What are you insured against: Insurance will insure cover for accidents or loss that others may endure in or around your home or company premises. You are covered from claims from intruders, on top of damages that might happen to anyone from falling items or workers carrying out repairs. If an accident happens on your premises and somebody claims against you, your insurance policy will help you to pay any fees.

What’s included A few contents or property insurance covers contain in-built liability insurance. You would be advised to check with your insurance firm if this is the case, and if so what grade of protection you get. Even if the insurance is integrated, you need to confirm that you are precisely protected for any specific accidents that may well take place.

Premiums: The payments that you pay depend on the level of cover you get. If you just protect your home, then the payments are very likely to be much less than if you are covering a business. Nevertheless, payments are relatively cheap inexpensive the amount of cover that you get, & its therefore fundamental for anybody running an organisation.

Quebec is a province that is located east of Ontario; it is Canada’s biggest province and has the second most people living there. There are about 7,568,640 people living there (as of 2005). The province is French speaking, that is there office language but a lot of people speak English there as well. The provinces capital city is Quebec City and the largest city is Montreal. This province has a deep history with Canada as a lot of settler settled in and around these areas.

If you enjoy traveling and learning about the places you are visiting then this is a place that you do not want to miss out, there is a lot of history here like the city of Montreal, some of the buildings go back 100 years, where I am from that is unheard of most building over 50 years old are replaced with something new. If you are the nature type there are the mountains that you can ski or snowboard, there are many rivers and lakes that have great fishing and boating.

Quick facts about the province -Largest city is Montreal -Population is 7,568,640 2nd biggest Province in Canada -5th province to become apart of Canada on July 1, 1867

This province has a lot of things to do, I can’t list them all but you need to visit this province to see a lot of Canada’s history. The province is unbelievable so you will need more then a week to see it all.
